Dr. Venkataramu Ravishankar joined the Department [of Physics] in 1989. He obtained his doctoral degree at the University of Mysore, working under the supervision of Prof. G. Ramachandran. Subsequently he carried out postdoctoral research as a Visiting Fellow at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai.
He is a theoretical physicist whose chief interests are Quantum Chromodynamics ─ with emphasis on Quark Gluon Plasma. Quantum Information Theory and Quantum Hall Effects. Apart from core / compulsory courses, he has taught electives such as Special and General Relativity, Particle Physics, Quantum Chromodynamics and Quantum Computation.
