Various Types of Eyeliner for Different Occasions
In this video lesson, Expert Yvette Parrish teaches about various types of eyeliner to help you choose the perfect eyeliner for your needs.
Transcript: YVETTE PARRISH: "Hi! I am Yvette Parrish. Thanks for joining me at Expert Village. Today I am going to show you how to apply the eyeliner, the different styles of eyeliner, and how to get that pretty smoky look. There are basically three types of eyeliner you can use. You can use a cake eyeliner, which is in a powder form. The cake eyeliner, you will have to wet your brush and apply it with a brush, and you put it on the top line. That is a cake eyeliner. Old faithful, which everybody’s seen, which is the pencil; you can use it. I do not like to sharpen it super, super, super sharp, because it kind of hurts when you put it on, and the line is too skinny. So make sure when you have your pencil, keep it a little bit nubby, I think it works a little bit better. There are also liquid liners. They come water-resistant, every color, every brush imaginable, some are long wearing. Any time you use a liquid liner, it is going to look shiny, and it is going to be a little bit more of a dramatic look. You can get a pretty swoop that way, and with the brush, the way it is very flexible, you can get like a Cleopatra swoosh at the end, which is very dramatic. It is wonderful for the evening; but I would save this for the evening time and use the pencil or the cake during the day. My name is Yvette Parrish, and I would love for you to visit my website at www.texaslatina.com; and I would like to thank Cynergy Dance Studio for allowing us to film here at their studio. Their website is www.cynergydance.com."

How to Remove Eyeliner Smudges
In this video lesson, Expert Yvette Parrish teaches how to remove eyeliner smudges with a makeup sponge.
Transcript: YVETTE PARRISH: "Hi! I am Yvette Parrish. Thanks for joining me at Expert Village. Today I am going to show you how to apply the eyeliner, the different styles of eyeliner and how to get that pretty smoky look. If you have a smudge, whether it is eye shadow sprinkles, or a little bit of a smudge from mascara, a really great thing to do, I am telling you these sponges act like a little eraser. You can put a little bit of foundation on your hand right here, or somewhere else, grab a little bit of foundation on your sponge, and now it acts as an eraser. You can erase any little mistakes that you make, nice and neatly with a sponge, so do not dry to wipe it with your finger, do not try to smudge it off like this. You are going to make a big mess. Take your sponge, grab a little bit of foundation; and see, the sponge is so flexible, you really can get as close as tight as you need, and clean up and use this as an eraser. So do not worry if you make a mistake, you get a little sprinkle. Just get your sponge out; just erase it and nobody will know."

How to Line the Upper Eyelid with Eyeliner
In this video lesson, Expert Yvette Parrish teaches how to line the upper eyelid with eyeliner, for the right look for you.
Transcript: YVETTE PARRISH: "Hi! I am Yvette Parrish. Thanks for joining me at Expert Village. Today I am going to show you how to apply the eyeliner and the different styles of eyeliner. What we are going to do now is do some eyeliner; and I have a unique way to apply eyeliner. I take my pointy brush and I got it wet. I dipped it in a little water. I squeeze out the excess water. I am going to use a black eye shadow, and I am going to apply liner on her eye. It will have the same effect as a liquid liner, but you will have more control, because you are using a brush. So we noticed I am slightly lifting up her eye, because I want to get it as close to her eyelashes as possible. I am gong to grab a little bit more, and I am just using a black. This is kind of a sparkly black, but you can use a flat black eye shadow and just wet your brush, and you can make your own liquid eyeliner."

How to Apply Eyeliner Strokes
In this video lesson, Expert Yvette Parrish teaches how to apply eyeliner with some basic techniques and tips in this free cosmetics video featuring a professional makeup artist.
Transcript: YVETTE PARRISH: "Hi! I am Yvette Parrish. Thanks for joining me at Expert Village. Today I am going to show you how to apply the eyeliner, the different styles of eyeliner and how to get that pretty smoky look. There are many different eyeliners. You can use the powder form, like I am using, and most professional make-up artists like to use this form, but you can also do a pencil, a pencil is fine. You can sharpen the pencil and apply that as well. There is also liquid eyeliner that usually comes in a little tube like this, and you will have a little wand on it and you can apply like that. Any time you use a liquid liner, it is going to be more dramatic. So I want the smoothness of a liquid for her, for my model; I just do not want the drama of it. So that is why I chose a powder, because I like the smoothness. I just did not want a big black shiny line, but if you are going out in the evening and you have a dramatic date and a night out, the liquid liner is beautiful for that. Now whatever is left on the brush, I am just going to put it in the rest of her eyebrows so everything has a pretty look."

How to Apply Powdered Eyeliner Under the Eyes
In this video lesson, Expert Yvette Parrish teaches how to apply powdered eyeliner under the eyes, in this free cosmetics video featuring a professional makeup artist.
Transcript: YVETTE PARRISH: "Hi! I am Yvette Parrish. Thanks for joining me at Expert Village. Today I am going to show you how to apply the eyeliner, the different styles of eyeliner and how to get that pretty smoky look. I am going to take the same black that I used. This time I did not wet the brush. It is dry, and I am going to grab a little bit more black…look up…and I am going to apply it underneath. Very skinny; it is very important that you have a small brush…see how small this brush is…because you do not a great big giant line back here. I just want a nice gentle look; and that way it just brings out her natural beauty. You can use a chocolate brown, something that will match your hair color. I use black typically, the darker your hair and the darker the eyebrows, the darker the liner that is more appropriate. Now these are just basic rules, but that is something to go by. So we have black hair and black eyebrows, you most likely can use black eyeliner…look up…but if you are very, very fair and you have blond, blond hair and blue, blue eyes, black liner will probably be a little harsh on you; but if you are going out in the evening or a special event, and you are careful with it, you can wear anything."

Applying Eyeliner to the Bottom Eyelid
In this video lesson, Expert Yvette Parrish teaches how to apply eyeliner to the bottom eyelid.
Transcript: YVETTE PARRISH: "Hi! I am Yvette Parrish. Thanks for joining me at Expert Village. Today I am going to show you how to apply the eyeliner, the different styles of eyeliner and how to get that pretty smoky look. I think it may be a habit-forming now, but I do think that doing it on the top line is a better start. I think it is a little bit more organized in a way; you get to see how your whole eye shadow on your eye is looking if you apply the top. Now I did a little bit of black on the bottom. Now I am going back to that original brown that I used for her eyebrows, remember, and I am going to take a little bit of that brown…look up…and I am going to just put it in the corners…look up, thank you. Just for a little bit of something special, I am going to take a hunter green…look up…and I am going to apply this in her corners, just to give her some umph…look up, thank you."

How to Choose an Eyeliner Applicator
In this video lesson, Expert Yvette Parrish teaches how to choose an eyeliner applicator, such as a pencil or brush.
Transcript: YVETTE PARRISH: "Hi! I am Yvette Parrish. Thanks for joining me at Expert Village. Today I am going to show you how to apply the eyeliner, the different styles of eyeliner and how to get that pretty smoky look. So it really depends what is easier for you. If you like a pencil, if you like to apply it with a brush, if you like a liquid…but know that the liquid is the most drama of all types of eyeliner. Pencil is the most common. If you have a nice and soft pencil, you can take your brush, and you can grab the color on the brush and apply it that way. I really recommend brushes, because you have a lot of control when you are applying make-up when you have a brush; and when you have a pencil you notice you do not have that much control. The pencil is kind of fat, you kind of make a mess, and you can be all over the place; and you are not going to get a really, really pretty sharp line with the pencil, no mater how you sharpen it. So you can always take your brush, grab the color this way, and you are going to apply the pencil like that. So if you get in the habit of using brushes, it will be very beneficial, and it will be a very good experience for you model. It will be a beautiful professional look." |

Selecting the Right Brush for Liquid Eyeliner
In this video lesson, Expert Yvette Parrish teaches how to choose the right brush for applying liquid eyeliner.
Transcript: YVETTE PARRISH: "Hi! I am Yvette Parrish. Thanks for joining me at expertvillage.com. Today, I am going to show you how to apply the eyeliner, the different styles of eyeliner and how to get that pretty smoky look. The smaller the brush, the smaller the area you are working on. For example, if you want to fill in the eyebrow right here, then use a tiny brush, because I want to fill in a tiny area. You do not want to use a big brush, boom, Groucho Marx eyebrows you know, we do not want to do that. So the smaller the area, the smaller size brush. So, if I am going to apply eyeliner then I want a skinny brush, if I am dusting the whole eye then I can take a large brush. So kind of think about the area that you are working on; and if you only want to fill in a little part of the brow, then just get a tiny little brush and fill that in, and you can get brushes from art stores, you can get them from department stores, a lot of these brushes that actually are paint brushes. As long as they are sable, squirrel hair, camel hair and if they are real hair, they will last for years and just take care of them and wash them and they will just last years. I think I have had some of these seven or eight years."

Applying Liquid Eyeliner on the Top Eyelid
In this video lesson, Expert Yvette Parrish teaches how to apply liquid eyeliner to the top eyelid.
Transcript: YVETTE PARRISH: "Hi! I am Yvette Parrish. Thanks for joining me at Expert Village. Today I am going to show you how to apply the eyeliner, the different styles of eyeliner and how to get that pretty smoky look. The liquid liners have a different kind of wand. They have some that are sponge tipped, there are some that are made out of brushes, brush bristles. This one kind of is a sponge tip. This is one of my favorite eyeliners, and I am going to apply…here you hold the base… thank you ma’am…and I am going to apply it very close to her lashes. And I am lifting up her eye, see I am kind of lifting it up ever so gently, so that way I can get under there. I want to be able to get as close to her lash line as possible…okay, open…and what that does—eyeliner is really supposed to make your eyelashes look thicker. So that is what I am trying to do; I am really basing doing this so that way her lashes will look even more fabulous. Now I am going to apply a little bit at the corner. Remember liquid liner always looks a little shiny. So you know that, that it is always going to be a little bit more drama anytime you use a liquid liner. And I am going to lift up ever so gently. You can use pencil. Pencil is always good, but pencil will not be as much drama. So really it depends… since we are doing a dramatic look, we can go with the liquid. You can wet a black eye shadow and dip your brush in; and you can apply it that way like we did the other model."

Applying Eyeliner to Bottom of Eye for a Dramatic Look
In this video lesson, Expert Yvette Parrish teaches how to apply liquid eyeliner beneath the eye for a dramatic look.
Transcript: YVETTE PARRISH: "Hi! I am Yvette Parrish. Thanks for joining me at Expert Village. Today I am going to show you how to apply the eyeliner, the different styles of eyeliner and how to get that pretty smoky look on her eye rim…because this is going to enhance the drama. And this is a very, very soft pencil; do not sharpen it too much, because you just kind of scratch your client; so I like to have a little bit of nub on my pencil. I do not like to have it sharp; I like a sharp, sharp lip liner, but not a sharp eyeliner, and this immediately will start giving it a dramatic look. Dramatic look is so much fun, have fun with it. You can use a navy blue liner, an indigo blue or a hunter green would be beautiful. This is called black diamond. You can use something like that. It has got a little shimmer to it or a chocolate brown. So it really is endless what colors you want to use, but with her light eyes, the black pencil looks beautiful. So I am going to go a little bit on the corners, right in here as well… you will look so pretty going to work today…and I am filling it in, and I am just taking my time. You know, spend a little time on your eyes if you really want a beautiful look for the eye."

Using Eyeliner Colors for a Dramatic & Glamorous Look
In this video lesson, Expert Yvette Parrish teaches how to choose eyeliner colors to create a dramatic glamorous look.
Transcript: YVETTE PARRISH: "Hi! I am Yvette Parrish. Thanks for joining me at Expert Village. Today I am going to show you how to apply the eyeliner, the different styles of eyeliner and how to get that pretty smoky look. All right, once you have the base with the eyeliner, I am going to take a different brush; and I am going to use a dark, dark, dark blue, because blue is a cool color. Not just cool like “cool, neato,” I mean cool as in summer, fall, winter, this is a cool color. I am going to take a little bit of the blue, and I am going to go over that black with that, like I guess it is kind of a navy blue; and that will soften the black liner that still give her drama. So here she is a drama girl, and I am going to take a little bit up here. Alright for just a little bit of fun, I am going to take some white and I am going to put it in the corner of her eyes, and it gives a very magical pretty, pretty glamorous look. And if you notice I use my hands a lot, I use my fingers a lot, part of being an artist is not being afraid to get your hands dirty."

How to Care for Eyeliner Pencils & Brushes
In this video lesson, Expert Yvette Parrish teacheshow to care for and clean eyeliner pencils and brushes.
Transcript: YVETTE PARRISH: "Hi! I am Yvette Parrish. Thanks for joining me at Expert Village. Today I am going to show you how to apply the eyeliner, the different styles of eyeliner and how to get that pretty smoky look. The proper way to clean eyeliners is a couple of different things. First you can sharpen it, but make sure your sharpener is clean. You can spray a 70% alcohol on your pencil sharpener, so when you sharpen the pencil, the sharpener itself is sanitized; because if you are sharpening it to get it cleaned and you are using a dirty sharpener, you are defeating the purpose. Or you can get I like these little alcohol prep pads, and they are 70% alcohol, and you can always clean them, this way. You can grab a new prep and you can clean your different pencils as well, and then you can throw the prep away, so that is a really good way to clean them; but make sure you check your pencil sharpener, but that is clean, use 70% alcohol for your hands or a hand sanitizer; and you can spray them with alcohol or you can take that little swab pad and clean them that way. My name is Yvette Parrish and I would love for you to visit my website at www.texaslatina.com and I would like to thank Cynergy Dance Studio for allowing us to film here at their studio. Eyeliner Tips for Photography
In this video lesson, Expert Yvette Parrish teaches some tips for applying eyeliner to look your best in photos.
Transcript: YVETTE PARRISH: "Hi! I am Yvette Parrish. Thanks for joining me at Expert Village. Today I am going to show you how to apply the eyeliner, the different styles of eyeliner and how to get that pretty smoky look. When you get your picture taken, and you want to do your make-up extra special, remember when the camera hits your face with that flash it is going to remove photographically 50% of your make-up. So you are going to have to apply it 50% more than you normally would. Which means, if you use a chocolate eyeliner, go ahead and wear black for your pictures, because once the flash hits it, it is going to look brown. If you start off with your normal make-up and you get your picture taken, it is going to look bare in the pictures. So you have to remember at least 50% more. I put a 100% more, so that way in the pictures you are extra looking good, you know but if you are not that brave, do at least 50% more, because once that flash hits you it just removes photographically half of your make-up. So if you are applying make-up for a model ,and she is getting her picture taken, make sure you find out, is it black and white pictures, is it color films, is it a 35 mm or is it a digital film, is it indoors or is it outdoors; and all those kind of questions that you communicate with the photographer and the model will enable you to do the make-up correctly, and she will look her best on film; and then you get hired for more jobs, so you know, it just makes you more efficient."
