Documentary Description

The Sarmatians occupied the vast territory of the Eurasian plains; they were an integral part of the ancient world. They were skillful and brave warriors; they collaborated with Rome actively by sending mercenaries to the Roman army and participating in the military campaigns of the ancient world. They were also active in the economic interchange. The Sarmatians declined in the fourth century with the incursions connected to the Migration period (Huns, Goths, Turks). The descendents of the Sarmatians became known as the Alans during the Early Middle Ages, and ultimately gave rise to the modern Ossetic ethnic group.

In 'The Sarmatian Treasure' you will see a unique gold treasure by the Historical and Archeological Museum in Azov. There, in the plains of the Azov region, archeologists perform intense research of the ancient culture. The gold of the Sarmatians helps unravel amazing mysteries. This is a joint project between Maestroproffilm Workshop and the National Museum of Azov. Well-known historians and archeologists served as consultants and participants for the project.
