This lecture introduces the student to the concept of surfaces waves. It describes why they exist identifies a number of different types of surfaces waves. Extra detail is provided on ways to couple energy into surface waves, surface plasmons, and Dyakonov surface waves.
This course by Dr. Raymond C. Rumpf is intended to teach students about electromagnetic devices and how they may look and operate in coming decades. Special attention will be paid to periodic structures, metamaterials, and structures fabricated by 3D printing. Devices will be designed and analyzed using tools developed during the prerequisite course “Computational Electromagnetics” as well as some new tools developed in this course.
