Documentary Description
China Airlines Flight 006 encounters turbulence while flying to Los Angeles. The No. 4 engine flames out and the crew tries to restart the engine at too high an altitude. Crew mismanagement of the situation causes the aircraft to go out of control. The extreme forces rip the undercarriage doors and parts of the horizontal stabilizers off. The crew recover control of the aircraft and then land it safely at San Francisco despite control problems associated with the tailplane damage. Two people are hurt, but everyone survives. The accident was attributed to pilot error caused by jet lag and difficulty adjusting to various time zones.
