Video Description

Southern Thailand and Malaysia - The Indochina Expedition makes its final push down the Thai Peninsula through Malaysia, to Singapore, the final destination. While exploring Northern Thailand, the team visits a Buddhist monastery where monks raise orphaned Indochinese tigers and then stops at the famous Death Railway and bridge over the river Kwai. Further down the Thai peninsula the expedition visits the seaside resort city of Hua Hin, which still has an active fishing fleet that plies the waters of the Gulf of Thailand. They ride across southern Thailand, stopping along the way to visit monkey populated temples, rubber tree plantations and roadside coconut farmers before crossing the border into Malaysia. After taking a ferry to Penang Island (Malaysia) the first order of business is checking out the street market of Gurney Drive where flavorful Malaysian cuisine is the specialty. The next day the island offers up its charms to the motorcyclists when they discover the old historic streets of the capitol city before heading to the less developed western side of the island to visit a tropical fruit farm.

Crossing one of the longest bridges in the world, the Indochina Expedition heads back onto the Malaysian mainland to visit a factory where mangrove trees are turned into high quality charcoal thats exported around the world. As they head higher in elevation, the Cameron Highlands give the riders a chance to explore the rich topography of Malaysias largest tea producing region, an area with lush plantations, mossy forests and an abundant horticultural industry. Parking the motorcycles at Taman Negara National Park, the expedition ventures into the backcountry for hiking and a ride up river to visit a Batek aborigine settlement. The urban jungle of the Malaysian capitol, Kuala Lumpur, is a significant threshold on the journey. After the team stops to visit the Petronas Twin towers, a landmark of Malaysia, they make their way through historic temple caves, a unique memorial park and a thriving night market.

On day 71, after riding 8,000 miles across 6 countries, the Indochina Expedition arrives in Singapore, the final destination and place to reflect on their historic journey across Southeast Asia by motorcycle.

Documentary Description

GlobeRiders has produced it's most captivating and exciting motorcycle travel adventure documentary to date with the release of the IndoChina Expedition DVD.  From Vietnam to Singapore, traveling over 8,000 miles in 71 days, the GlobeRiders IndoChina Expedition takes you to the rarely visited (by motorcycle) countries of Southeast Asia. The adventure started out in Saigon, Vietnam in September 2007.  Adventure riders are Helge Pedersen on a BMW HP2 and Chris Poland on a BMW R1200GS Adventure.  Award-winning videographer Sterling Noren accompanied the team in the chase vehicle to film the entire journey.  The GlobeRiders team is one of the first ever to travel in Vietnam with their own foreign-registered, large-displacement, foreign-manufactured motorcycles.

Follow the adventure as they travel through extremes in weather and terrain, and discover the rich cultures of Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and Malaysia.  After 71 days on the road, their epic journey finishes up in Singapore.  The IndoChina Expedition DVD continues GlobeRiders tradition of popular, award-winning documentary programming, distributed throughout the world.

In the fall of 2007, GlobeRiders realized a dream that had been in the planning stages for years - the pre-run or "recce" for a future tour of the former French colonies of IndoChina. Founder Helge Pedersen, along with team rider Chris Poland and award-winning filmmaker/videographer Sterling Noren, spent 71 days riding through Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. Over the course of their 8,000 mile journey, Sterling shot over 100 hours (1.3 terabytes!) of High Definition video, capturing the stunning beauty of the land,  and the smiles, traditions, daily lives and cultural treasures of the people.  From this vast library of sight and sound, he then spent roughly 1,200 hours in editing.  The result? A new IndoChina Expedition DVD, and a six-part television series.

You can relive the experience!  On Thursday, December 4th, GlobeRiders will conduct a special premier showing of the IndoChina Expedition at the Crest Cinema Center in Seattle, WA.  Although the adventure is enthralling on the recently released DVD, this special event will use a digital projector, showing the IndoChina Expedition in full High Definition video resolution, bigger than life. The entire team will be on-hand for the show.  A drawing will be held for door prizes.  Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to participate in a virtual moto-adventure through the diverse and historic countries of Southeast Asia.
