God On My Side (2006)
CBC - The Passionate Eye
Documentary Description
In the United States, 70 million citizens are born-again Christians, accounting for 40 per cent of George W. Bush 's vote. As a result, they expect a powerful voice at the political table with input on foreign and domestic policy. In God On My Side, Andrew Denton, Australian Film Institute award-winning journalist, visits the 63rd National Religious Broadcasters' (NRB) Convention in Dallas, Texas, in an attempt to shed light on these believers.
Denton delivers a new perspective by delving deep into the realm of America's faithful and using his renowned tact to document their journeys into the light of faith. He focuses on the everyday believers, who run the booths on the NRB exhibition floor. Using a mix of traditional and cutting edge technologies to convey their messages, America's self-proclaimed moral majority explain their world view on God and George Bush, Israel and Islam, abortion, homosexuality, the Supreme Court and the imminence of Armageddon.
God On My Side was written by Andrew Denton and Jon Casimir, produced by Jon Casimir, and executive produced by Andrew Denton and Anita Jacoby.
