Video Description

October 25, 2009

NASA's DC-8 research aircraft was about 30,000 feet over Antarctica's Pine Island Glacier (and bay) on October 20. Scientists got data on the ice surface and hidden subsurface; you get these views out the window.

Documentary Description

NASA is embarking on an airborne campaign to the southern end of the world -- Antarctica -- to study the massive ice sheets on that continent. "Operation Ice Bridge" gets underway today, and NASA is going to take you there. See what we've got planned. Operation Ice Bridge, a six-year NASA field campaign, is the largest airborne survey of Earth's polar ice ever flown. It will yield an unprecedented three-dimensional view of Arctic and Antarctic ice sheets, ice shelves and sea ice.
