The star of this episode is the DC-8 -- NASA's biggest flying laboratory that makes our long treks to Antarctica with a heavy payload possible. Focus is on take-off and, of course ... the group photo.
NASA is embarking on an airborne campaign to the southern end of the world -- Antarctica -- to study the massive ice sheets on that continent. "Operation Ice Bridge" gets underway today, and NASA is going to take you there. See what we've got planned. Operation Ice Bridge, a six-year NASA field campaign, is the largest airborne survey of Earth's polar ice ever flown. It will yield an unprecedented three-dimensional view of Arctic and Antarctic ice sheets, ice shelves and sea ice.
