Fly along on another DC-8 flight from Oct. 28, this time a low-altitude flight over the West Antarctic coast where the ice meets the sea and floats. Some great views and science observations.
NASA is embarking on an airborne campaign to the southern end of the world -- Antarctica -- to study the massive ice sheets on that continent. "Operation Ice Bridge" gets underway today, and NASA is going to take you there. See what we've got planned. Operation Ice Bridge, a six-year NASA field campaign, is the largest airborne survey of Earth's polar ice ever flown. It will yield an unprecedented three-dimensional view of Arctic and Antarctic ice sheets, ice shelves and sea ice.
