Our Oct. 28 flight, continued ... Scientists use gravity to look below the ice and several instruments to sample the Antarctic air. Also: See mountain ranges rolling by and a fly low over Pine Island Glacier.
NASA is embarking on an airborne campaign to the southern end of the world -- Antarctica -- to study the massive ice sheets on that continent. "Operation Ice Bridge" gets underway today, and NASA is going to take you there. See what we've got planned. Operation Ice Bridge, a six-year NASA field campaign, is the largest airborne survey of Earth's polar ice ever flown. It will yield an unprecedented three-dimensional view of Arctic and Antarctic ice sheets, ice shelves and sea ice.
