Centering on the life of one of France’s greatest revolutionary mathematicians, Gaspard Monge, this programme shows how he founded the Ecole Polytechnique, originally to train military engineers. Looks at the library of the present day Ecole Polytechnique and the early nineteenth century books and papers which chronicle this period of French educational reform.
