Hessel Gerritsz (1581-1632)

Amsterdam cartographer and mapmaker some time boss of the VOC, provided the West India Company of the card. This important publication for inclusion in his''Description of West Indies'', from 1625. The chart is slightly smaller, but also businesslike and yet more comprehensive than the map of Jodocus Hondius from 1599. Hondius' son (1594-1629) saw that, apparently because he also copied this chart for its spending of the Atlas of Mercator.
