Java Films (Java Films)
Java Films is a Paris based independent distributor specialising in current affairs, topical news features, investigative reports, social affairs, discovery and human interest films. As well as distributing documentaries for French producers, we also represent filmmakers based in Europe, America and Australasia and work with clients all over the world.
Our catalogue can be divided into three distinct sections: news reports, television documentaries and festival documentaries. Most of the films we distribute go into our television catalogue, to be profiled at trade shows like MIPCOM or LE RENDEZ VOUS. We devise an individual marketing strategy for every film we take on and are constantly on the look out for new markets for our films, making sure they don’t ‘stagnate’ in our catalogue once the initial marketing push is done.
When it comes to festival documentaries, our focus is on quality over quantity. We screen hundreds of documentaries a year but only take on a few titles for this catalogue, enabling us to place all our resources into marketing these films effectively. A separate department deals with entries to film festivals, cinema screenings and VOD/DVD releases.
On the news side, we represent a number of award-winning current affairs programmes, like France 2’s ‘Envoyé Spécial’. We can move very quickly, e.g. if a breaking news story gives one of our reports added relevance, republishing that film immediately to make sure it makes the evening news.
