Lecture Description

In this lesson, we're going to teach you how to choose a good WordPress theme. Where can you download themes and which ones can you trust?

There are two aspects to a good theme:
1) The quality of the code behind the theme
2) The quality of the look of theme

You don't need a theme that looks exactly how you want it to look in the end. Instead, you do need to find a theme that looks close enough so that you can easily change it a bit to get the result you want.

Themes at wordpress.org/themes/ are heavily vetted. So they are generally going to be good themes, code-wise.

They don't, however, look at the design. Design is going to be more subjective, so you'll find a wide-variety of designs in the theme directory.

GoDaddy Blogger is a good place to find reputable theme reviews. For example, www.godaddy.com/garage/webpro/wordpress/15-free-wordpress-themes-worth-their-weight-in-gold/

If you want to learn more about what makes a good theme, consider joining the Theme Review Team at WordPress.org.

You don't have to be a coder or tech savvy to join the team. You'll learn how to review themes using their checklist. Find out more at make.wordpress.org/themes/
