Lecture Description

A widget is a small piece of code that does one small, specific thing in WordPress. Traditionally, they go in a sidebar, but they can go anywhere around your main content.

In Appearance - Widgets, you can find the installed widgets. On the left side are the widgets you can use. On the right side are the widget areas provided by the theme.

You can drag widgets from the left side into an area on the right (for example, into Footer). Also, you can drag a widget from one widget area to another.

Clicking on a widget will give you the options available. To get rid of a widget, drag it from the right side to the left.

There is no saving in this area, except for the options for the individual widgets.

Many plugins include widgets. Installing a new plugin installs the widget as well. You can find new widgets by searching for them in the WordPress plugin directory.
