Lecture Description
In this video, we're going to talk about managing users in WordPress.
In the admin in the left menu, you can access all the users.
Some of the user information will be used in the front-end of the site. For example, in a forum profile or blogger profile, user information is usually displayed.
The user image is imported automatically from gravatar.com if the user email address is used for an account at gravatar.com.
Each user's details can be edited by clicking on the user link. Keep in mind that email addresses need to be unique and can't be shared among users.
Each user has a user role. User roles are defined permissions that a user can or can't do. There are 5 default roles:
1) Administrator: can manage everything (content, users, settings, plugins, themes, etc)
2) Editor: can do everything with all content. But, can't change settings, plugins, and other non-content items.
3) Author: can do everything only with their own content. They can write, edit, and publish.
4) Contributor: can write, but not publish. All content must be reviewed by an editor or administrator.
5) Subscriber: can hardly do anything. The account is useful for being able to log in and view some restricted content or comment on some content. It's a common user role for an e-commerce site's buyers.
There are many plugins available that modify user roles and/or allow new custom user roles.
