Cricket Legend Sunil Gavaskar: 'The Challenge Is to Get the Team to Believe in Itself' April 23, 2009 According to Sunil Gavaskar, former cricket captain for Team India, success in any vocation requires Three Ds: discipline, which is more mental than physical; dedication to hours of practice; and determination -- because, as Gavaskar says, during the time when he was playing the game, "cricket wasn't a career option." Today, of course, that last part has changed, with top players earning millions of dollars and corporate sponsors lining up to pay them. At the recent Wharton India Economic Forum in Philadelphia, Gavaskar spoke with India Knowledge@Wharton about his career, how the business side of cricket has changed, and what he has learned about teamwork and leadership along the way. Tata Group's Farrokh Kavarana: 'We Are Just Trying to Reclaim Our Legacy' April 09, 2009 When insurance giant AIG ran into problems during the subprime mortgage crisis, how did that affect the company's two ventures with India's Tata Group? The impact was surprisingly small, according to Farrokh Kavarana, a director of Tata Sons, who oversees Tata AIG Life Insurance and Tata AIG General Insurance. Tata AIG's ventures are well capitalized and they more than meet regulators' solvency norms, he told India Knowledge@Wharton in an interview during the recent Wharton India Economic Forum in Philadelphia. During an interview with India Knowledge@Wharton at the recent Wharton India Economic Forum in Philadelphia, Joshipura suggested that GSK's years of experience in India may soon pay significant dividends as it prepares to create a "branded generics portfolio, apart from our own pipeline, in emerging markets."
